Optimization of the staff schedule

PROBLEM:

A retail chain of 30 outlets needed to optimize costs, on the one hand, and steps to increase sales, on the other hand.

SOLUTION:

An analysis of traffic and sales distribution by the hour throughout the day enabled the chain to identify:

– busy hours.

– conversion in busy hours declined by an average 1%. This suggested that the staff could not serve the visitor traffic and some customers were not ready to wait in lines.

In low footfall hours, there is no point in having the entire staff. In peak footfall hours, it is on the contrary imperative to make sure that you have enough staff. The goal is to keep every customer!

RESULT:

The retailer reduced the payroll by 10.5% without any staff cuts by optimizing the working hours during the day alone. It is 7.9 mn rubles per year for the average retail chain of 30 outlets.

The turnover increases 3% to 5% thanks to the optimal staff distribution during the busy hours. It is 58.8 mn rubles per year for the average retail chain of 30 outlets.
